The energy demand of a country is a factor that grows in line with economic development of the same; for this reason it is essential to introduce measures to optimize the demand. Fortunately a significant variety of savings measures and energy efficiency. From an industrial plant to a small business going through a home are many savings opportunities that can be applied to lowering energy consumption. In this context, efficient use of energy and support renewable energy has acquired a special relevance for the achievement of the objectives of energy policy in any country. On the other hand, actions in energy efficiency with a range of added benefits, stimulating innovation and improving competitiveness of the economy.
In summary, it can be argued that investments in the implementation of energy efficiency techniques produce an double benefit: the derivative of reduced energy costs, by a hand and driven by the incorporation of more technologically advanced equipment which allow increased production and reduction of other than energy costs and an improvement in the quality of thereof.
Framed on the premise presented, and taking into account the needs of the countries of North Africa for its development, the project was born Efficiency, project funded by the Programa de Cooperación Transnacional Madeira – Azores - Canarias 2007 – 2013 (PCT - MAC) and the Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER). The objective of this project is the recognition of savings and energy efficiency as an instrument of economic growth and social and environmental welfare. The countries participating in it are Mauritania, Senegal, Cape Verde and Spain (Canary Islands).
